ZAHARRAK BERRI

synopsis

Since the release of their first album in 2020, Arineketan, led by Iñar Sastre (piano) and Jagoba Astiazaran (txistu), has performed on numerous stages, dedicated to renewing traditional Basque music.

So far, the rhythms and melodies of Basque dances have been their central focus. Their work has been to take this material and transform it, with humor and enjoyment, showing that traditional sounds can have a new life. As a sign of their success, they received the Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa award in 2021 for their live performance.

To complete this multidisciplinary show created in collaboration with Arineketan, we have gathered talented artists: Xabi Zeberio on violin, Oihana Iguaran on vocals, and Nora López on cello.

After three years, they bring us a new project. What’s new? “Zaharrak berri.” As the saying goes, they will continue to explore tradition in the same way. Just as they did with Basque dance, they now wish to bring a fresh take on traditional songs of unknown authorship.
